What is ferrite in stainless steel?

    January 09, 1970

    What is ferrite?

Ferrite is a crystal structure form of steel, iron and other iron alloys at room temperature, and is a simple cubic crystal system composed of iron atoms. It is a kind of tissue structure formed at low temperature, with good plasticity and strength.

    Second, the characteristics of ferrite

    1. Good plasticity: ferrite has good plasticity, that is, it is easy to deform, because there are a large number of slip planes in its crystal structure, which makes the crystal easy to slip under the action of external forces, thus forming plastic deformation.

    2. Low hardness: Compared with other organizational structures, the hardness of ferrite is low and it is easy to be machinely processed.

    3. Obvious magnetism: Ferrite has obvious ferromagnetism.

    4. Low density: The density of ferrite is small relative to other structures.

    Third, the application of ferrite

Ferrite is widely used in the field of metallurgy and materials, it can be used as a precursor to prepare other structures, for example, by heating steel can get austenitic structure, heating austenitic structure can get pearlite structure. In addition, ferrite can also prepare magnetic materials, such as motor cores.

    Is ferrite a material?

Ferrite is not a single material, it is just a form of crystal structure. In steel, cast iron and other materials, ferrite is one of the organizational structures, so ferrite can be used as a component of a material. However, a single ferrite is not an independent material.
